42nd Advances in Haematology Course 2010

This course provides an intensive update on the scientific basis and clinical practice of haematology for haematology specialists and those in haematology training. The entire breadth of haematology is covered over 5 days, with emphasis on recent advances and their impact on future research or clinical management. The haemostasis and thrombosis sessions will be held on 27th September and delegates may register on a daily or weekly basis.

Fourth International Course on Clinical Epidemiology applied to the Study of Thrombosis and Hemostasis
1-5 November 2010, Florence, Italy.
This one week intensive course is aimed at those involved in clinical research, with a particular focus on observational studies. The course will familiarize the participants with the principles of study design and analytical techniques. These include basic concepts such as incidence, risk measures (rate ratio, odds ratio), hypothesis testing, matching, interaction, bias and confounding. Participants will be taught the theory, but also spend considerable time practicing on paper analytical techniques, such as Kaplan-Meier survival analysis, Mantel-Haenszel estimators and standardised mortality ratios (SMRs), and various regression (linear, logistic, Cox) techniques.
The course fee is €500, and full board is €400. There are still a few places available and interested individuals are invited to send enquiries to f.r.rosendaal@lumc.nl.
