2008 Impact Factor announced

We are delighted that the JTH Impact Factor has risen to 6.291. The impact factor underlines the Journal's status as the number one specialist Journal in thrombosis and haemostasis research. Below is a chart showing the Journal's growing impact factor since its inception.

Changes to JTH word and author limits.

At the 2009 ISTH Congress in Boston, the Editorial Board agreed a relaxing of the policy on word limits for Original Articles and on author limits for Letters to the Editors. It is expected that the majority of Original Articles will continue to be up to 5000 words long including all references and figure legends. However, articles of exceptional quality will be considered which exceed this limit (usually up to 5000 words excluding references and figure legends). The editors also agreed that high quality Letters to the Editors will be considered with up to eight authors. These changes are effective immediately.

The Mannucci Prizes are awarded in honour of Pier M. Mannucci, the Journal's first Editor-in-Chief, for the best articles by Young Investigators under 35 years of age. The prizes are made possible by a generous contribution from Bayer HealthCare.

We wish to congratulate the authors for their achievement.

HASLAM, Richard John
We sadly announce that Dr. Richard Haslam died in Hamilton, Ontario on May 15, 2009 at the age of 71 years, after a long illness. Born in Wigton, Cumberland, England, Richard was an internationally respected scientist who pioneered much of the work on platelet activation pathways. One of the last PhD students of Hans Krebs in Oxford; his life's work centered on the area of signal transduction, including the roles of GTP-binding proteins, phospholipases, protein kinases and cyclic nucleotides in the regulation of cell function. He is perhaps best known for cloning the major substrate for protein kinase C in platelets, and naming this pleckstrin, a term now used in all major biochemical textbooks when referring to pleckstrin homology domains. The focus of his work was on cells important in cardiovascular disease, particularly blood platelets. While some of his early work was performed at the Royal College of Surgeons and with I.C.I. Pharmaceuticals in Alderley Park, England, he soon began an association with McMaster University that led to his permanent recruitment in 1972. He was appointed Professor Emeritus in McMaster University in 2003 and had remained active in research. He was universally recognized for the originality, quality and thoroughness of his research and in total published over 70 primary papers, including 7 in Nature. His wife Beryl, their three children, and his many colleagues in Canada and around the world will sorely miss Richard.
